HIStory: MY HERO / Boys Love / Webseries Review

HIStory:My Hero / Boys Love / TAIWAN WEBSERIES REVIEW

*long post and spoilers ahead
*This is a Boys Love series, meaning love story between boys
*Do not continue if you are uncomfortable with boyxboy

Hello! Its been quite a while! So today, I am going to review on my quite a long time obsession! Boys love! *throws confetti*

BEFORE YOU CONTINUE:
I'll say this one more time if you didn't read my warning above. So Boys Love is a genre which tells about love story between boys. So basically its a boyxboy / yaoi story. Please please do not continue if you don't like boyxboy. But if you are open minded enough to give it a try. This could be the magnet to the  BL world haha! But seriously, if you are anti-gay or stuff like that, don't continue. Well, I have a lot to say about this genre and a lot to recommend, and I will make a separate post for those.

So today I'll be reviewing HIStory which I just watched today. I finished all three stories in just a day hahaha.

What is HIStory?
Basically, HIStory is a 2017 released Taiwan's Boys Love webseries airing on an app called Choco TV. It comprises of 3 short stories, each consisting only of 4 episodes (which is honestly too too short) So if you already knew and watched BLs. This is honestly quite rushed but it was enjoyable!
So the three series are: MY HERO, STAY AWAY FROM ME 離我遠一點, OBSESSED 著魔

HIStory: MY HERO

What I'll be reviewing today will be the first series which is MY HERO. This is the only series without a Chinese title.

Summary:
My Hero tells the story of Lan Xi who was dead which was a mistake the Grim Reaper made. So in order to make up to Lan Xi, the grim reaper said that she can goes into another's body and get a 7 days chance to get Lan Xi's boyfriend, Ying Xiong (translated into Hero in Chinese) to kiss her, and then she will be able to stay alive, but Lan Xi could not tell Ying Xiong that it was her of course. Gu Si Ren was a nerd and often get bullied in school, he was saved by Ying Xiong and since fell in love with him. When he went into the class, Lan Xi's ghost scared him and he tripped and died(?), then Lan Xi went inside his body. Lan Xi in Gu Si Ren's body, then started her 7 days challenge to make Ying Xion fall for her and eventually kiss her.

First Impression:
I was randomly searching for BL series because its been long since I watched any decent ones. I stumbled upon this and I actually watched the second series before the first. At first, upon knowing this was about a girl trapped in a boys body story totally turned me off. Even though she was using a boy's body, but its still a girlxboy for me. And I do not like that. I like my BL to be pure BL. But decided to give it a shot since its only 4 episodes. And may I say that the cast was a total eyecandy! Especially Ying Xiong!

Cast:
Aaron Lai (賴東賢) as Ying Xiong (Hero)

He is the Male Lead in this series and also the boyfriend of Lan Xi and Gu Si Ren's crush.
There are not much information about him on the net. I didn't get to search in Chinese though.

All I can say that he is my favourite actor from the whole three series. He is just so handsome and manly and hot! His acting was also good! He should've played other series for me. And he should definitely act in other BL! Total hottie!

Jiang Yun Lin (蔣昀霖) as Gu Si Ren
Gu Si Ren is a nerd and often get bullied. He was saved by Ying Xiong and since then kept a crush on him. He has a habit of writing diaries where his diaries play an important part in the series.
All I want to say is that, he is a great actor. The way he portray himself as Lan Xi is really great! His acting kept reminding me that he is indeed Lan Xi trapped in Gu Si Ren's body! It was very real. Kudos to him! Perfect uke I would say.

Patricia Lin (林映唯) as Lan Xi
Patricia Lin plays as Lan Xi, a rich and supposed to be spoiled daughter of a rich company. She was dead by mistake and goes on a 7 days challenge to win her boyfriend's heart. She then found out about Ying Xiong's true feelings.

1. Review
So as I said above, this series only consisted of 4 episodes, which was really short. And the plot of this series is also a common plot. So I would rate this series as a really really basic series. The flow was fast paced. I see a lot of rooms for development if they did not limit it into only 4 episodes. A lot of parts could be more developed and I think would deliver a more whole and better story. Another thing is that the lack of lovey interaction between the two male leads. The cutest moment is only when they share a bottle of water, which was indeed really cute and make me smile all ears.

What made me stick watching and stay happy until the end was because of how the casts portray their characters. I've never seen these actors before but they did a great job. I could feel their roles. Their characters were also relatable. Like Lan Xi for instance, she was quite bratty and didn't realise that Ying Xiong was actually uncomfortable with some of her actions, for instance making Ying Xiong spicy food which he can't handle. Then at the end she found out that Ying Xiong was always trying to give in to her and tolerate with her, which made her mad and also felt guilty. Which is a good thing.

I almost cursed at the end, *spoilers* when at the last 3 minutes of the 7 days challenge, Ying Xiong kissed Lan Xi in Gu Si Ren's body. I sincerely thought that Lan Xi will be kept alive in Gu Si Ren's body and it will make me go berserk. Because it was revealed that who Ying Xiong love was actually Gu Si Ren. Just when I was about to backlash the writers, the scene came that Lan Xi was out of Gu Si Ren's body, standing beside the Grim Reaper. Then Ying Xion kissed Gu Si Ren again, this time the real him. Lan Xi's word was very memorable at the end, she said "In a relationship, the one that doesn't get loved is the third party"which was true.

Before I get to the end, the songs in this series are worth mentioning! I instantly fell in love with the theme song! And the other OST in this series. Here are some of the OST:

HIStory Theme
小小的 - 思衛 Sway ft. 鄭中基 Ronald which was the OST for My Hero

Overall, this is a very light BL series, with very little kisses. Heck, no hot kisses at all for me! I would rate this a more of shounen-ai rather than yaoi. I believe it can do a lot better with longer episodes and more development. But still good enough.

To watch or not to watch?
This is a review, but honestly, I would say that to watch or not for this series, is going to be absolutely based on preferences. For me, I would not watch in the first place if its not for the short episode, because I already disliked the plot. But I knew people who would watch and like this as it is a really light series. It is enjoyable as well and not hardcore, not even softcore, this is just a really basic and normal BL. I would recommend this to first time BL watchers, and for those who still are prejudiced against this kind of series, it will be a nice try. So, enjoy! I'll be reviewing the other two tomorrow!

XOXO
