November 4 Demonstration in Jakarta
Hey guys!
As always, I have been MIA for a time isn't it. Hahaha
Today's topic is a little bit sensitive, as I am going to speak out my thoughts about the current happening in Indonesia, specifically in Jakarta.
For Indonesians, the news of November 4 being chosen as a date for demonstration was already spread before the date. Some schools and shops had decided to close down for the day.
So what is all this big demonstration about?
I do not know the full story, this is just a gist that I know. Please search the news for more complete and reliable chronology for this matter.
From what I know, today's demonstration (I am typing this on 11.30, technically its still today) is about the muslims that were offended by current Jakarta governor, Ahok's interview (I think) where he 'insulted' a part of the holy Al Quran thus resulting in offending most Muslims.
This interview if I am not mistaken happened about a month ago. It really really became a big problem as after that a lot of people throw more hate comments and such to Ahok. Mr. Ahok himself is already viewed controversial as he is Indonesia's first chinese-descendant Governor. That alone made him hated by loads loads of people who were still racist. Sigh.
It was then turned out that the video of apparently Mr. Ahok 'insulting' the Al Quran was uploaded irresponsibly as only half of the part is uploaded causing major uproar. Then, Mr. Ahok made an apology video and clarifying that he did not mean in anyway to insult the Al Quran, that the people understood his meaning wrongly. But what happened has happened, and his haters for sure for sure will use this to manipulate and create provocation.
And this result in the demonstration today. Its aim is to just want a clearer clarification and clearer method to solve this problem. Garnering more than 50,000 demonstrants, I still have never seen this many flood around the heart of Jakarta. "Wow, this is crazy"I thought to myself. I have no hate or whatsoever towards this demonstration because everyone is given a right to speak and to give out their opinions.
At first the demonstration started off really well and in peace. And on 8 oclock, the mess begins. The demonstration is supposed to end, but there were people who begin to throw bottles and bamboo sticks to the police. Two police cars were burnt.
As I speculated, things won't end so smooth. Why? I am not dissing the demonstrant or what, but in every demonstration, there are bound to be people who are trying to be provocative and wreak havoc to create more problems. Politics game I would say.

Look at the crowd
This short blogpost had come to and end. What I would like to convey is that for people to be more critical and understanding. Whether it is religion, history or anything, we have to always use our clear mind to think and be objective. Do not be easily agitated by people's words. We have to research and confirm its truth before making any judgments. I hope Indonesians will be more critical so as to build a better country for ourselves and the next generation. Let's think smart and shed of racism!
Salam Bhinneka Tunggal Ika.
